I must apologize to those checking my website lately. I have been very ill and unable to do the required updating. I am back to breeding and will be expecting some little guys in the near future. Welcome to New Beginnings Rattery (NBR)!
We are a small hobby breeder located in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. We strive for breeding the best little companions for rat lovers everywhere! We breed for good temperaments, friendliness, and beauty but most importantly health and longevity. All of our rats are hand-raised from day one, as this makes for friendlier,happier companions. We select only the best to assure the highest quality of rats possible.
Our ratties receive the best possible food, veterinary care and the best possible living conditions. My rattery is located in our spare bedroom, temperature controlled, not in a basement or garage. Our rats receive daily playtime and cuddle time, both in groups and individually, and live in the biggest cages I can find/build. They get new toys daily to keep them occupied and entertained making their cage full of enrichment's to keep their little minds stimulated. A special treat is given to them every evening. They vary to keep their little taste buds from getting bored.
With love and compassion we have started our rattery. My goal is to better the breed in every way possible. I am always researching, asking questions and trying new things. I am not afraid to make mistakes as I can learn from them I have a great mentor/friend (Janine of ARS Rattery) who is always there to help me and guide me step-by-step when needed , but always encouraging me to do my own research.
I assure every potential adopter, that their pets have come from a healthy, clean, safe environment and that no issues will be kept hidden. I am very honest and plan to keep it that way. All ratties are guaranteed healthy when then leave my home. A signed contract will be required on ALL rat adoptions, regardless of pet or breeder rats. I DO NOT sell for research, to pet stores, laboratories, nor do I sell feeders! PERIOD! Please do not ask! No exceptions!

About Us
I grew up around many different species of animals from frogs and turtles to horses and goats. I used every opportunity to learn everything I possibly could. My mother taught me this was the best way to provide the very best for our much cherished pets. My daughters grew up the very same way. To use kindness, and tenderness to all creatures great and small and gain as much knowledge as possible.
This brings us to today. I currently work for a veterinarian and my daughter (my partner) is a senior in high school and works in the kennel (in the same clinic) We have 3 dogs, 6 cats (3 naked ones) , cichlid fish, horses, turtles and of course the ratties!!
I am also researching the possibility of starting a 'Learn with Rats' program in elementary schools. I would like to introduce ratties into a a supervised environment with young children to teach early animal responsibilities. To instill into the new generation that animals deserve love and compassion too. That they also need a clean place to sleep, food and water daily, and mental/physical stimulation. I am hoping to promote a kinder and more gentle generation of humans too.
